Black steel pipes are seamless pipes primarily used for transporting water and gas in residential and commercial settings, and for fire sprinkler systems due to their high heat resistance. “Black pipe” is named for its dark iron oxide coating formed during manufacturing. This coating helps protect the pipe against corrosion to a certain extent, but is not recommended for transporting drinking water.
